    Artina McCain, piano

    Pianist, Artina McCain, enjoys an active career as a solo and chamber performer, teacher, adjudicator and presenter. She has performed nationally and internationally including Czech Republic, Italy, China, and throughout the United States. McCain's performances have recently been broadcast on Chicago's WHPK 88.5, KUT (NPR affiliate) 90.5, Toronto 98.5 CKWR, Hong Kong's RTHK, Houston's KWWJ and Classically Austin's KMFA 89.5 Pianoforte program as both a soloist and chamber musician. In the 2012-2013 season, she was a featured guest artist at the Great American Brass Band Festival, Gateways Music Festival, Texas Book Festival and the Texas Music Festival. An avid chamber musician, McCain's recordings include an album of African American Spirituals and Art Songs on the Naxos Label entitled "I, Too" which received an Austin Critics Table Award. A solo album including works by Debussy and Rachmaninoff entitled "Preludes at the Piano" and "Trombone Czar" which are available on the Kairoi Music label.

    A dedicated teacher, Dr. McCain has coached at the Cleveland Institute of Music Summer Chamber festival, appeared as guest artist at the Ennis Arts Commission summer concert series and on faculty at the Austin Chamber Music Center Academy and Summer Music Festival. She served on the keyboard faculty at Baldwin Wallace College Conservatory of Music, University of the Incarnate Word, Huston-Tillotson University and currently Assistant Professor of Piano at Texas Lutheran University Seguin, TX. Recently, she was nominated for the 2014 Texas Music Teachers Outstanding Collegiate Teaching Achievement Award.

    Dr. McCain's research interests include audience building, arts entrepreneurship and performance injury. In 2012-2013 directed several initiatives to bring outreach concerts to school children called "Raise the Bar" which presented concerts to over 1,000 elementary and middle school students around rural Texas communities. A strong advocate of performance injury prevention, she has presented many lecture/performances at universities and music teacher association's conferences on Muscle Activation Techniques and her article was published on the topic in Clavier Companion.
