    Jie Wu, violin/viola

    Violinist and violist Wu Jie has garnered unprecedented success as a performer and teacher. At 9 years old, she was accepted to study at the Shanghai Music Conservatory and toured as a soloist in Germany and Switzerland 6 years later with that same school orchestra. After winning first prize at the Orford Second International Competition in 1999, Wu Jie moved to Montreal to study with Eleonora Turovsky and during that period, she performed to great acclaim on many occasions with the I Musici Montreal Chamber Orchestra and the FACE Symphony Orchestra in their respective concert tours across Canada. In 2001, Miss Wu was invited by Pinchas Zukerman to study with him at the prestigious Manhattan School of Music. After obtaining her Bachelor degree, Miss Wu went to the Juilliard School to earn a Master degree. As a chamber musician, Miss Wu is a founding member of the Escher String Quartet, a group mentored in its inception by late cellist David Soyer and later on by the members of the Emerson Quartet. Miss Wu played with the Escher Quartet from 2005 to 2012 and during those years, Wu Jie performed all over the world and collaborated with many esteemed artists such as Grammy Winner Jason Vieaux, David Shifrin, Leon Fleisher, Anne-Marie McDermott, Wu Han, Paul Neubauer, David Finckel, Larry Dutton and Pinchas Zukerman. Wu Jie recorded the entire Zemlinsky quartet cycle with Naxos and served on the BBC Radio 3 New Generation Artists scheme from 2010 until 2012. Moreover, she was a member of the Chamber Music Society in Lincoln Center as a member of the Escher String Quartet until 2012 as well. As a teacher, Wu Jie was the adjunct professor at the SUNY Stony Brook University from 2006 to 2008. Wu Jie taught many violin and viola students at the Manhattan School of Music Precollege form 2013 to 2017 and several of them are now in reputable schools such as Curtis Institute of Music, Yale University and Cleveland Institute of Music. In 2018, Wu Jie was an artist-faculty member at the Music@Menlo chamber music festival.
