Kineko Okumura, violin
Born in Tokyo, violinist Kineko Okumura was awarded a Fulbright Scholarship to study in the United States. She is a graduate of the Juilliard School, where she studied with Oscar Shumsky. Ms Okumura received the Ysaye Award in Japan, won second place in the Paganini International Competition, and was selected to perform at the Akademia Chigiana in Italy. Kineko has held the position of Associate Concertmaster for the Sacramento Symphony, the Sacramento Chamber Orchestra, and the Monterey Symphony. She has also served as Concertmaster for the Solano Symphony and the Bear Valley Festival Orchestra, as well as performing with the San Francisco Chamber Orchestra and Pro Art Symphony. Ms Okumura appears regularly with the Chamber Music Society of Sacramento, Music Now, Tahoe Festival, Festival San Miguel Allende, among others. She has performed many recitals including performances in Boston, New York, Tokyo, Italy, and appeared at the Mozart in Monterey Festival, Brevard Festival, Waterloo Festival, and the Beethoven Festival . Concerto appearances include Paganini D Major with Manhattan School Orchestra, Lalo Symphonie Espagnole at the Brevard Festival, Mozart Symphonie Concertante with Sacramento Symphony, and Brahms and Tchaikowsky at Festivals in Japan. Kineko Okumura teaches privately and is on the faculty of the San Francisco Conservatory. Her students have won Concerto Competitions, performing with Orchestras in Northern California.
