Sławomir Dobrzański, piano
A versatile pianist with a broad repertoire, Sławomir Dobrzański frequently performs a soloist and chamber musician Europe, South America, Asia, and throughout the United States. He is a graduate of the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music in Warsaw, Poland, and the University of Connecticut. His major teachers include Regina Smendzianka, Andrzej Dutkiewicz, Zelma Bodzin, Jack Winerock and Neal Larrabee. Additionally, he was a student of Mieczyslaw Horszowski and Malcolm Frager during summer festivals in Lucerne, Switzerland.
Dobrzański currently serves as Professor of Piano at the School of Music, Theatre and Dance at Kansas State University. Previously, he was a piano faculty member at the University of Rhode Island and Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota. Many of his former piano students are currently pursuing artistic and academic careers all over the world, across North and South America, Africa, Europe, and Asia. Many have become highly successful soloists and chamber musicians, often while serving simultaneously on the music faculties of colleges, music conservatories, and community music schools.
Dobrzański released several world-premiere recordings of piano music by Maria Szymanowska (1789-1831), Anton de Kontski (1816-1899), and Wiktor Labunski (1895-1974), published by the London-based label Acte Prealable. He is also an author of the first biography of Maria Szymanowska in the English language.
Recently, the pianist was honored with the title of “Meritorious for National Culture” by the Government of the Republic of Poland.
