    A native of Williamsburg, Virginia, Stephanie Ycaza enjoys a diverse playing and teaching career. Recent performance credits include concerts with the Virginia Symphony, the Williamsburg Symphony, and the Virginia Grand Military band. She regularly performs with chamber groups and large brass ensembles, including the James River Brass, Cathedral Brass and Annandale Brass. She has also contributed to recording projects at Spacebomb Records. As a soloist, Stephanie’s recent performance focuses have been on the music of Latin American composers, and her own transcriptions and arrangements for low brass. She performs with her brother, trombonist Kevin Fairbairn, as Duo Fairbairn.

    Stephanie has served as adjunct instructor of low brass at Virginia Commonwealth University, Virginia State University, Longwood University, and the University of Richmond. She taught music theory, aural skills, and world music courses at Virginia Commonwealth University, as well as brass methods at Longwood. Stephanie currently serves as an Artist in Residence at Southeastern University.

    Stephanie holds a Master of Music degree and Artist Diploma from Yale University, and a Bachelor of Music degree from Virginia Commonwealth University. She studied with Dr. Ross Walter, Toby Hanks, Mike Roylance, and Michael Bunn.
